As of the time of writing, the cheapest one-way flight (known as “BASIC: Travel Light”) on Wizz Air from Gibraltar to Luton, for one adult, which only includes hand luggage, costs £15.37 for the 18th of December.

If you need more legroom, flexibility and things like priority boarding, a one-way flight for the same date would cost £56.43.

According to their own website, Wizz Air is “the greenest airline in Europe” and “operates at the lowest C02 emission per passenger amongst all competitor airlines … the airline with the smallest environmental footprint per passenger.”

The plane was welcomed in on the 11th of December with a spectacular water cannon salute provided by the Gibraltar Airport Fire and Rescue Service, with the iconic Rock of Gibraltar and the lit-up Moorish Castle as a backdrop.

Disembarking passengers, crew and pilots were greeted by the Gibraltar Re-enactment Society and the Gibraltar Sea Scouts.

Both arriving and departing passengers were presented with gifts by a team from the Gibraltar Tourist Board.

The Minister for Business, Tourism, Transport and the Port, Vijay Daryanani, alongside representatives from the Gibraltar International Airport were also present on the tarmac to welcome passengers and crew.

Minister Daryanani, who negotiated personally with the airline in order to attract them to the Rock, said:

“Wizz Air UK is expanding quickly, and I have no doubt that they will become long term partners for Gibraltar … Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar is committed to attracting an expansion of air services.”

This also comes after a new helicopter route was set up this October. Helíty provides helicopter journeys connecting the Gibraltar International Airport with Malaga Airport in 25 minutes, with a maximum capacity of 15 passengers at a rate of €150 per adult (one way).

At the time of writing, Gibraltar remains on the United Kingdom’s “Air Travel Corridor” list, which means that those arriving in the UK from Gibraltar do not need to self-isolate.

Owen Jones, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK said:

“A truly unique destination, Gibraltar offers a fascinating blend of history, culture, spectacular views from the top of the Rock and of course, a chance to see its famous Barbary Macaques. As Gibraltar remains on the travel corridor list, meaning passengers arriving into England from Gibraltar don’t have to self-isolate on return, now is the perfect time to book a trip onboard our young, green and ultra-efficient Airbus…”
