International Women’s Day Gibraltar 2019

The focus of this year’s International Women’s Day (‘IWD’) is ‘Balance for Better’, with the aim of “doing everything possible to help forge a more gender balanced world”, according to the official website of the organizers.

We spoke with Gibraltarian businesswoman Denise Matthews, founder and CEO of One Media and Events, who has partnered with Sunborn Gibraltar and Women in Business Gibraltar to put on a dinner and conference to mark the occasion, which will be celebrated in Gibraltar on the 7th of March 2019 at the luxurious Sunborn Yacht Hotel.

Denise told us, “we want to create an exciting dialogue; discussions and brainstorming with a view that the event is not only a celebration of International Women’s Day, but also an opportunity to bring together like-minded people who share a passion for diversity, equality and progress in both Gibraltar’s professional environment and in our community.”

The purpose of the event is to create a forum, which Denise tells us “will open the discussion between men and women attending to create better, equal and diverse environments in both our personal and professional lives. We feel this is the best way to engage with the 2019 theme.”

Approximately 230 people will be attending with a mixture of corporate tables and individual bookings from different sectors around the Rock, such as small businesses, and gaming and finance companies.

The Women in Business Association are hoping to sponsor students to allow them to attend this event as part of the Ministry of Equality’s Mentorship Programme. For more information on this programme you can email [email protected]

Attending this dinner and supporting the cause will be First Lady Justine Picardo, who is a prominent lawyer and Partner in the Corporate and Commercial Department at Hassans law firm.

Among VIP guests, the dinner will also host a series of talks and Q&A’s from Forum Leaders in Gibraltar, such as Nuria Harjani, Business Development Manager for Intercash; Ruth Massias Greenberg, Founder of Gamma Architects; Nyreen Llamas, Chief Strategy Officer at MoPlay and Peter Mares, CTO of Playtech Innovation Lab.

During the second half of the event, Women in Business rapporteurs Dr. Jennifer Ballantine Perera, Director at the Garrison Library and Fiona Young, Senior Associate / Mediator at Ramparts law firm will be gathering key points and notes from each table and sharing them with the guests.

Once again, Gibraltar is at the forefront of progress in the field of equal opportunities.
